Why It Matters

Independent by Design

Cool Soil Consulting doesn't sell seed, fertilizer, crop protection products, septic systems, or installation services. Our revenue comes from consulting — not the products or systems connected to our recommendations.

That allows us to evaluate the ground independently and work alongside the agronomist, retailer, installer, designer, or contractor you choose.

What Happens in a Septic Soil Evaluation

From first call to finished report, here's the sequence for a residential or commercial septic project.

Schedule the Visit

Call or text with the property address or parcel number. We'll confirm availability and what the local health department or health district requires.

On-Site Evaluation

Hand-auger borings across the proposed area, documenting soil profile, texture, structure, drainage, and any restrictive layers present.

Receive the Report

Typically within 1–2 business days of the site visit, documenting the soil and site conditions observed at the property.

Design & Permitting

The appropriate health department and your septic designer or installer use the report as they determine permitting and system requirements.

How Zone-Based Ag Consulting Works

Most fields contain several distinct soil conditions. Here's how we identify those differences and turn them into management data you can act on.

Map the Zones

We use terrain analysis and elevation data to identify distinct soil zones within your field based on landscape position — dry ridges, transitional slopes, wet low areas.

Verify the Ground

Soil borings test what the terrain predicts. We document depth, texture, drainage, and restrictive layers, confirming or refining the zone boundaries at the locations we observe.

Characterize Capability

Each zone receives a ZoneIQ™ score — a standardized index of the physical soil characteristics that influence productive capability. It is an index for comparison, not a predicted yield.

Integrate Fertility

Soil-test results interpreted in the context of zone capability and productivity history, delivered as VRT maps your fertilizer dealer can load directly into their spreader.

"Very happy with the work Kevin did. He worked hard to find a good area for my new septic system when the soil on my property was challenging. He never complained and worked very hard, then provided all the follow-up paperwork. He also answered detailed follow-up questions after the fact and really went above and beyond. 100% recommend!"
